When Lauren (pictured below) first contacted me, we spoke about her desire for maternity photos that were different from what she had been seeing from pregnant friends and family members. Her desire was to celebrate her first pregnancy with a timeless nude maternity portrait in order to capture the joy she feels for this baby.
While I love maternity gowns flowing in the wind, a simple portrait session in the studio brings the focus of the session back to the amazing transformation going on inside this woman’s body. It is my hope to one day do a complete progress pregnancy portrait in this style – do I have any takers?
When it comes to a nude maternity portrait, your session will be different from any other session because this is all yours! I of course love to guide mamas into the most flattering positions, and Lauren made this a breeze, being up for any of my suggestions. One item she opted to bring with her in order to add a personal touch was a sonogram. Other ideas for this are special heirlooms such as a baby blanket, stuffed animal, book, etc.

Since Lauren’s session, many more mamas-to-be have opted for a more natural, intimate type of session. The most popular nude maternity photo look is done with draping fabrics which allow the bump to be perfectly framed. Some pregnant people also enjoy topless maternity photos, embracing their womanly form. And most recently, I created a gold leaf work of art on a 3rd time mother, and boy was she radiant!
