How it all began..

I was raised in Dominican Republic by a natural mother, who I adore. In my child’s eyes she was this beautiful, charismatic woman, with red lips and colorful clothing, who was loving and playful. And she still is. I knew that I wanted to be a mom when I grew up and in fact, my goal was to have 6 kids and more specifically, I wanted all boys. Turns out I would have my first at 25. I sure  planned this all out as a kid. And it all happened exactly as I planned…

Of course not. 😉  Fast forward to moving to the Bronx, then later living in the Midwest and back again to the East Coast…falling in love and coming to California. My first was a girl and I had her at age 30.

Motherhood sure can change you. And it took motherhood to remind me how little I knew, yet at the same time, how much I was intuitively equipped with as a new mother to my new baby.  I also quickly realized that to do this mothering thing, I really needed a group of other mothers around me.

Supporting Mothers Around me.

This was 2005 and support groups, like the ones today (thank goodness there are options now!), weren’t as easy to find. There was none at all in my area, but  I knew that I could not possibly be the only one that needed other mothers around me. So I began hosting new mommy groups at my home.

I figured it just took one other mom to have a play-date…and a mother did come and another and another until we had a striving new group of us meeting regularly. This is essentially how Granola Babies began. Eventually, it grew into a children’s boutique with a focus on sustainability and eco-friendly (for this I credit my Dominican mami for instilling natural living in me) products for children, until it came full circle to returning back to a focus on supporting mothers through education and services in our community.

Through the experience of becoming a mother, I also became a Childbirth Educator with The International Childbirth Education Association and Birthing from Within.  In addition to that I completed a Certified Lactation Educator/Counselor with University of San Diego, a Postpartum Doula with DONA. And to top it off,  a Certified Positive Parenting Educator with Positive Discipline. I’m also an American Heart Association Certified CPR Instructor. I also teach Birth & Beyond to nurses at hospitals, which is a curriculum that meets the requirements of the Baby Friendly Initiative created by the World Health and Beyond and UNICEF.

During the years, I‘ve had the honor of supporting thousands of families, partnering with amazing birth and parenting specialists  to create a community that is supportive and welcoming.

My heart is blessed to get to serve this community in this way. And I’m forever thankful for the families, who make all this possible by choosing my classes.
